How the calculator works
It starts from the rule of thumb in our braai meat per person guide: roughly 375–525 g of raw meat per adult across a mixed braai, depending on how many sides you serve. Children count as half an adult, and teenagers and big eaters as one and a half.
The total is split across the cuts you tick. Bone-in cuts (chops, chicken, ribs) get a bigger share because bone and fat count against you, and pieces are rounded up so nobody gets half a chop.
Next: get the fire right with how to make a braai fire, pick your braai wood, and sort the sides with our braai salads.
